SPE Events this Week

We are having a few events this week that we hope you will join us for!
Wednesday (3/22) – General Meeting with Carbo Ceramics and SPE Presidential Election
Our 10th General Meeting of the year will be hosted by Carbo Ceramics and will take place in JGB 2.324. Food will be served at 6:45pm with the meeting starting at 7pm. We will be conducting our presidential election for the 2017-2018 school year. The two candidates are Tosa Nehikhuere and Nick Staviski. Only paid members will be allowed to vote. Details of the Carbo Ceramics presentation are below:
TITLE:  Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Proppant, But Were Afraid to Ask

ABSTRACT:  Proppant is critical to the successful application of hydraulic fracturing. This talk will review the history, types, characteristics and properties of proppant. It will also review several new multifunctional proppant technologies, and will include several videos of interest. Samples will be on hand so attendees can get a closer look at proppant. 

BIO:  Terry Palisch is a Global Engineering Director for CARBO Ceramics located in Dallas, TX. He is active in SPEI and SPE Dallas, has coauthored numerous SPE papers and guest lectured at UT in the past. 

Thursday (3/23) – Lunch with a US Navy Captain
The U.S Navy Captain, who is the Executive Officer (#2 on the ship) of the USS Harry S. Truman Aircraft Carrier, will be speaking about his experiences in the military and a career in the Navy. It will be in JGB 2.218 from 10:00-11:00 AM. This is not an SPE event, but we are advertising it on their behalf. Pizza will be served.

  • M.S. in Aviation Systems
  • Attended Navy Nuclear Power School
  • And a bunch of other awesome stuff in a 20+ year career in the U.S Navy
